Purple Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After DC vs RCB Match 50

It was a day of one-sided affairs as both of today’s winning teams dominated their opponents in their respective games. In the first game, Chennai Super Kings restricted Mumbai Indians to 139 runs and chased it down in just 17.4 overs to seal their sixth win of the season. On the other hand, in the second game, Delhi Capitals chased down a target of 182 runs in just 16.2 overs to bash Royal Challengers Bangalore. As a result, there have been several changes in the Purple Cap race after today’s doubleheader.

Tushar Deshpande back at the top

Tushar Deshpande has continued his purple patch at the IPL 2023. The right-arm pacer was once again amongst the wickets as he picked 2 crucial wickets of Cameron Green and Tim David to break the backbone of MI’s batting. What impressed even more was his economy rate. The 27-year-old went for just 26 runs in his 4 overs, making it his best spell in the IPL 2023 so far, in terms of runs conceded.

Deshpande now holds the Purple Cap with 19 wickets in 11 games. He has a one-up on Mohammed Shami, the league’s second-most successful bowler. Deshpande’s economy has also enhanced a bit, improving by a whole run.

Chawla and Jadeja move up, Siraj slips down

Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja have also continued their domination with the ball, rising slowing and steadily in the ranks. While most Mumbai Indians bowlers failed to leave an impact, Piyush Chawla once again ended up with figures of 2 for 25 in his 4 overs. Chawla’s constant performances have now landed him in 4th place in the Purple Cap race, with 17 wickets in 10 games. He is Mumbai’s best bowler this season by a huge margin.

Ravindra Jadeja too picked up the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in his latest outing against the Mumbai Indians and has moved up by one place to be in the 6th place in the Purple Cap race. Mohammed Siraj, who once held the Purple Cap, went wicketless in tonight’s encounter as he bowled just 2 overs and was smashed for 28 runs. As a result, he has slipped down to the 7th place in the Purple Cap list.
