IPL 2024 Points Table: Updated After LSG vs PBKS Match 11

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first win of the IPL 2024 season, defeating the Punjab Kings by 21 runs.  This victory not only brings them onto the points table but also propels them to a significant position – jumping from 10th to 5th place.  Conversely, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) find themselves slipping down the table, currently residing in the 6th spot after registering their second defeat in three matches.

LSG’s batting performance showcased a mix of missed opportunities and late heroics.  While KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal failed to capitalize at the start, Quinton de Kock provided stability with a well-paced 54 off 38 deliveries.  Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran added valuable contributions with cameos of 19 off 12 and 42 off 21 balls, respectively.  However, it was Krunal Pandya‘s late blitz of 43 runs off just 22 deliveries that truly propelled LSG’s total to a competitive 199/8 on a batting-friendly pitch.  LSG could have potentially reached a score closer to 220 with better execution in the early stages of their innings.

PBKS’ bowling attack had its moments. Arshdeep Singh picked up crucial wickets of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock early on and Sam Curran did well with the cutters, but they were just not enough in the end.

PBKS’s chase began brightly with Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow dominating the powerplay overs.  Their blistering opening partnership of 102 runs instilled hope for a successful chase.  However, the introduction of young pacer Mayank Yadav into the attack proved to be a turning point.

Yadav displayed impressive raw pace, consistently hitting the 150 kph mark and unsettling the Punjab batters with his bounce.  He was instrumental in breaking the crucial opening stand by dismissing Bairstow and went on to pick up two more wickets – Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma.

Shikhar Dhawan, who witnessed wickets fall at the other end, lost momentum and succumbed to the pressure, departing for a well-made 70 off 50 deliveries.  This triggered a collapse in the PBKS batting order, with wickets falling at regular intervals throughout the chase.  Despite a valiant cameo from Liam Livingstone, PBKS ultimately fell short of the target by 21 runs
