IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Josh Hazlewood not playing today’s IPL Match against Sunrisers Hyderabad

In a highly anticipated clash at the illustrious Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns for a thrilling encounter in Match 65 of the scintillating IPL 2023. The stakes were high, and the captains walked out for the toss with anticipation filling the air. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, known for his strategic prowess, won the toss and elected to bowl first, setting the stage for a captivating battle.

However, when the Playing XIs were unveiled, the eagle-eyed spectators were quick to notice a conspicuous omission. Australian speedster Josh Hazlewood‘s name was notably absent from the RCB lineup. While du Plessis refrained from revealing the rationale behind this decision, it is safe to assume that Hazlewood fell short of the team’s expectations.

Why is Josh Hazlewood not playing today against Sunrisers Hyderabad?

“We are gonna have a bowl. The last two nights we have had some dew. Good surface but touch on the slower side. Same team as last game. Hasaranga has a niggle. Bracewell strengthens our batting. We have to start afresh. The game of cricket has a funny way of biting you. You have to have the humility of looking at a fresh game.”, said RCB skipper Faf du Plessis after winning the toss.

Having joined the RCB camp slightly later due to his recovery from injury, Hazlewood had a limited opportunity to make his mark, featuring in just three games for the franchise. In this limited stint, he managed to claim three crucial wickets, but his economy rate of 8.44 hinted at a slight lack of impact.

The final straw that seemingly led to his omission came during Hazlewood’s previous clash against the formidable Mumbai Indians at the renowned Wankhede Stadium. Hazlewood bowled a mere three overs, conceding 32 runs without picking up a wicket, which likely played a significant role in the team’s decision.

The team has replaced Josh Hazlewood with South African left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell. Parnell has featured in 5 games for the franchise this season, picking up 9 wickets at an economy rate of 8.83. Parnell played a huge role in RCB’s 112-run victory against the Rajasthan Royals in the last game as he picked up figures of 3/10 in his 3 overs. Fans would be hoping that Parnell replicates the same performance in this game since it is a must-win game for them.
