Dhoni begins training for IPL

Mahendra Singh Dhoni reportedly took to the cricket ground to prepare for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League in the weekend. The IPL will make the comeback of ‘thalaiva’ in the UAE. The league will see Dhoni once again captaining his IPL side, Chennai Super Kings donning the yellow jersey and making an end to a sabbatical from cricket. Reportedly Dhoni faced bowling machines in the JSCA indoor facility as there were not a lot of bowlers available for the extended lockdown.

A Jharkhand State Cricket Association office-bearer informed the New Indian Express, “He (Dhoni) visited the JSCA International Stadium Complex last week. He practiced at the indoor facility using bowling machine.” The source further added, “He did batting practice for two days over the weekend, but has not returned since. I honestly don’t know what are his plans or whether he will come back for training. We only know he has visited the facility for practice.”

Dhoni’s comeback in IPL 2020

Reports also claim that former Indian national cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni used to train regularly at the facility for the cash-rich Indian Premier League before the lockdown was imposed. Dhoni also went to Chennai to practice with his Chennai team at the beginning of March just before the lockdown. Then the IPL was postponed in the wake of pandemic and Dhoni returned to his place in Ranchi. Since India’s exit from World Cup 2019 in last July, Dhoni has been absent from professional cricket. While the IPL 2020 is going to be memorable considering the pandemic issue, Dhoni’s comeback will be an add-on to the excitement. But unfortunately, the fans may not be able to present at the stadium to greet their Mahi.

The Chennai Super Kings team is expected to gather in Chennai on August 20 and the players will fly to UAE in a chartered plane. So Dhoni has still few days left to get the most of the training facility in Ranchi. Hopefully, he will make to the Ranchi ground again to get preparation for the IPL.
