Amazon leading the race of sponsors

Amid the anti-china sentiments, the deal between BCCI and Vivo was called off yesterday officially. Vivo was the title sponsor of the cash-rich league that was supposed to pay the Indian cricket board INR 440 crore since 2017. With the 13th edition of IPL to begin in a month’s time, this looked like a herculean task to find a sponsor with same kind of deal that the board had with the mobile makers. So, now the BCCI is not only looking for a sponsor but would be happy with even at 1/3rd of the Vivo deal. Fortunately, almost in no time, the board has received offers from many leading companies like Amazon, Unacademy, and fantasy platforms like Dream11 and MyCircle11.

But when it comes to the title sponsorship is concerned, e-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly leading the show and the festival season that will arrive alongside the IPL is one of the reasons behind that.

Sources explain sponsorship deals

As per a report in News 18, a source in loop explained, “In fact, it’s a win for BCCI even if they get a title sponsor at 1/3rd the value and two official partners to somewhat make up for the pool. Expect Vivo’s Rs 440-odd cr pool to scale down to around Rs 180 cr and that, mind you, will be a win for BCCI in this market.”

Interestingly along with Amazon, Unaacdemy, and other leading fantasy sports platforms, name of the Byju’s is also doing the rounds. According to the board sources, if Byju ( team India jersey sponsor) decides to sign deal for IPL that would be a win-win situation for both. “The BCCI is looking for partners today. If Byju’s decide to support the IPL today and rework the jersey sponsorship numbers going forward, it could be a win for them and BCCI.”

In fact, if sources to be believed, all of these names floating could rope in as different partners. “That’s where there’s space for an Unacademy or a MyCircle11 to walk in as official partners. If Dream11 take the title, Unacademy can step in as official partners. If Byju’s take the title, MyCircle11 can come in. Brands won’t be conflicted,” clarified the sources.
