IPL 2019: Sourav Ganguly joins Delhi Capitals in advisory role

India’s former captain Sourav Ganguly will be seen in an all-new role in the upcoming IPL 2019 as he has joined the franchise Delhi Capitals in the role of an advisor. This will be the first time Ganguly will work with the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting.

Ponting is the head coach of Delhi Capitals. The franchise also has Mohammad Kaif (assistant coach), James Hopes (bowling coach) and Pravin Amre (talent scout) in the coaching department. After his appointment, Ganguly expressed his excitement for the new role.

“I am very pleased to come on board with the Delhi Capitals. Having known the Jindals and the JSW Group for years, I am now excited to be a part of their latest sports venture. I am really looking forward to working with the players and the support staff,” said the CAB President as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Parth Jindal, the Chairman of DC franchise was hopeful that Ganguly’s appointment will benefit the team. “Sourav is one of the most astute minds in world cricket. A lot of what we see in Indian cricket today was born because of Sourav.

“His aggression, positivity and never-say-die attitude are traits we want the Delhi Capitals team to imbibe. It is truly an honour that Sourav has chosen Delhi as his IPL team. I have no doubt that our team will benefit immensely from his experience, guidance and advice. Sourav has been like family to me and I am deeply humbled to have him as an Advisor,” added Jindal.

The Delhi-based franchise has implemented plenty of changes before the start of the 12th edition of the league. They changed the name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals. Also, the color of the jersey changed. Additionally, there were new faces introduced in the coaching staff.

However, it’s the change in the fortunes on the field that the team would want above all. They haven’t had a great time in the league as they haven’t managed to reach the playoffs since 2012. In the last 6 years, they have finished at the bottom of the points table thrice.
