IPL 2019: Dale Steyn joins RCB as the replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile

Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed the South African speedster Dale Steyn for the remainder of the season. Steyn will replace the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile.

The Australian pacer has encountered a back niggle that ruled him out of the tournament. In IPL 2018, Coulter-Nile couldn’t participate due to an injury. Earlier this season, he was representing Australian national team against Pakistan on the tour of UAE.

After the series ended on March 29, he headed back to his country for personal reasons. The Bangalore-based franchise was hoping to have him in the side to resolve the pace woes. He was supposed to join the RCB setup on April 13. But it’s another major blow for the team in an already awful season so far.

Dale Steyn had hinted joining an IPL team as he shared his Indian Visa on social platforms. There were speculations all over of the pacer joining the Bangalore franchise. It’s now official that he will play for RCB.

The South African fast bowler last played in the IPL in 2016 for Gujarat Lions. He had gone unsold in the auction earlier this year. But he comes back to the Indian T20 league with the same franchise he had played for in the inaugural tournament in 2008.

However, the franchise has confirmed that he will only be available from April 16. It means that he won’t be featuring in the next two games of the team against Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians. Steyn can be slotted in the line-up from the game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 19.

The Virat Kohli-led side has lost all the 6 games so far. Their chances of making it to the playoffs look bleak at this stage. Steyn has been in good form of late in international cricket. It will interesting to see whether he is able to rejuvenate the depleted side.
