India Squad Announcement for Australia ODI Series Live: Ashwin in Contention as Axar’s Injury Raises Concerns

The Indian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia is set to be announced at 8:30 PM. While India is likely to field a similar team to the one that played in the Asia Cup, concerns over Axar Patel’s injury may open the door for Ravichandran Ashwin’s return to the ODI side.

Axar Patel injury

Axar Patel sustained an injury during the Super 4 encounter against Bangladesh, which was a dead rubber. Consequently, Washington Sundar was called in as a last-minute replacement for the all-rounder. However, Sundar is part of the Asian Games squad, leaving Ashwin as the prime choice to replace Axar. Nevertheless, nothing is confirmed at this stage.

In the Asia Cup final, Mohammed Siraj delivered a brilliant performance as India defeated Sri Lanka by ten wickets. India claimed their eighth Asia Cup title, and they are now eager to carry this momentum into the upcoming 50-over contests against Australia. After the Australia series, India will engage in two warm-up matches before commencing their World Cup campaign against Australia.

Both India and Australia are considered favorites to win the World Cup, which will be hosted in India. Australia has already announced an 18-member squad for the three ODIs. However, they are grappling with fresh injury concerns, with all-rounder Aaron Hardie traveling with the team as cover for Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis.

Rohit Sharma, after India’s Asia Cup victory, hinted at Ashwin’s inclusion in the squad, stating that “Ashwin is in the line.” While the Indian team is eagerly anticipating the ODI series against Australia, Pakistan legend Wasim Akram has labeled the series as “unnecessary” and expressed concerns about player fatigue before the World Cup.

As India prepares to reveal its squad for the Australia ODI series, fans are eager to see how the team shapes up and how the injury concerns are addressed as they gear up for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be hosted on home soil.
