If We Do Well In the First Phase, We’ll Be In a Better Position – Virat Kohli

India already looks good enough for their World Cup 2019 hunt led by Virat Kohli. Although experts are already in favour of calling India one of the favourites for the semi-finals, Kohli is not convinced yet. Virat Kohli is more interested in focusing on the game right now and taking one at a time.

India are Favorites

India began their campaign late but with a bang. They won their first two encounters against South Africa and Australia. The way Kohli and Co. defeated Australia, experts have already started showing huge faith on the team. Men in Blue anyway entered as one of the favourites for the tournament alongside England and the defending champions Australia. Then what they delivered as a team is sufficient to term them as a tough contender. Especially the way they beat Australia and dominated in all the departments Kohli can surely dream of winning World Cup 2019. This is the first time that Virat Kohli is leading the team in the World Cup and he looks confident while talking about his boys. But the captain wants to go slow but steady to win the race.

Captain Speaks

Kohli is keen on taking one game at a time and doesn’t want to stress thinking about the ultimate. While he was asked about the chances of semi-finals, he said it would be too early to comment on that. He is happy with the start and the fact that they got the momentum. But he thinks that at least four more games required fathoming India’s chance for the top four. He talked about the positive outcomes that India beat two strong sides. According to him, it is good to play against strong sides at the beginning as this will make the path easier later. “The good thing is we’re playing all strong sides upfront, so if we do well in the first phase, we’ll be in a better position to reach the semifinals.”
