ICC World Cup 2019: Doubt Over Tim Southee Selection

New Zealand will begin their journey for World Cup 2019 in a few hours time. They will face Sri Lanka for their first match at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Mostly the kiwis are set with their team but there are injury issues that are still concerning for them. Keep Reading to find out Tim Southee injury update.

Selection & Injury

While talking to the press, Kane Willaimson informed that there is still doubt over the selection of batsman Henry Nicholls and medium-fast bowler Tim Southee. They have some minor injuries so the final team is yet to be finalized. “Tim and Henry have some minor niggles, and that’s why we can’t quite name our team yet. It’s important we get through training before we make our final decisions. There are a number of parts to those decisions, but relatively minor. We know it’s a long tournament.”

The Kiwi captain made it clear that the final decision would be made to post the training session on the match day. Good news is that Batsman Colin Munro, wicket-keeper Tom Latham, and pacer Trent Boult have been declared fit. All of them are the key players for the New Zealand team and Boult is one of the key players of the Black Caps.

On World Cup

While talking about team performance, Kane mentioned how he wants everyone to not treat them as potential winners. Although they were finalists in the last World Cup in 2015 he intends to start from the scratch without any expectation and pressure. He wants his teammates to give their full potential, play according to the situation and deliver their best. If this can be done, the skipper thinks they can beat anybody.

“It’s about us playing the sort of cricket that we want to be playing and showing those sort of attributes, characteristics, that are really important to us as a side to try and be a competitive side day in and day out.”
