ICC Cricket World Cup Most Runs: Updated After Afghanistan Vs Netherlands Match 34

The 34nd ODI of the ongoing tournament ended brilliantly for Afghanistan as they secured yet another dominating win against Netherlands at the Ekana Sports City in Pune. Before successfully chasing the needed target of 180 delivered by the Dutch, the Afghans restricted them to a mere score of 179 runs, bowling out the team in 46.3 overs. This is Afghanistan’s 4th win in a row in the ongoing tournament out of the seven matches they have played till now. The team is now leading at the 5th position in ICC Rankings table only after New Zealand which is among the top 4 teams likely to qualify for the semi-finals.

Despite having won the toss and opting to bat first, the Dutch hit a low today against the Afghans with their bowling unit failing to showcase an exceptional performance too. Netherlands kept losing wickets continuously as the Afghanistan bowlers didn’t leave their line and length bowling effortlessly. The 34th ODI of the ICC World Cup witnessed a one-sided affair where the Afghans secured a 7-wicket victory over the Dutch side.Ā

Who were the heros with the bat today?

For Netherlands, none of the players except Sybrand Engelbrecht could reach the 50-run mark, therefore not making the target worthy of chasing. Engelbrecht played a 58-run knock which was commendable indeed followed by Max O’Dowd who scored 42 runs and Colin Ackermann scoring 29 runs when he was dismissed by Rashid Khan. Majority of the players got dismissed after scoring single digits, not able to pose powerful partnerships against Afghanistan’s bowling attack.

On the other hand, though Afghanistan started slow with the run chase with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran scoring 10 and 20 runs, Rahmat Shah set the tone of the innings chasing 52 off 54 followed by skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi who went on to chase 56 runs from 64 balls. With these powerful knocks, Afghanistan was able to chase down the target in just 31.3 overs, registering 4th win of the tournament.
