IPL 2024 is all set to commence in 2 days. Teams are all geared up and ready. The inaugural match will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Before starting the season, CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey make a big remark on Sameer Rizvi’s role in the tournament.
Sameer Rizvi in CSK:
CSK secured Rizvi’s services for a hefty sum of Rs 8.4 crore during the IPL 2024 mini-auction held at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena. Rizvi’s explosive performance in the UPT20 league last year, where he amassed 455 runs in 10 matches at an average exceeding 50, including two centuries and a half-century, garnered attention. His substantial price tag propelled him into the league of the top 10 most expensive players sold at the auction.
Rizvi’s remarkable batting prowess and impressive track record in domestic cricket earned him a lucrative deal with CSK. His sensational impact in the UPT20 league, coupled with his consistent run-scoring abilities, made him a prized asset for the franchise. CSK’s acquisition of Rizvi for a staggering INR 8.4 crore reflects their confidence in his potential to deliver match-winning performances on the grand stage of the IPL.
Michael Hussey’s Remarks:
Addressing attendees at the inauguration of the Pavit Singh Nayar Memorial inter-college T20 tournament at Guru Nanak College in Chennai, Hussey expressed confidence in Rizvi’s capabilities to fill Rayudu’s role for CSK in IPL 2024. Hussey said, “Most definitely. I think he can definitely play that role. I mean Ambati Rayudu is someone that has so much experience and he’s played for so long. So, he’s a seasoned campaigner, whereas Rizvi is just starting out in his IPL career.”
Later he added, “So, we can’t expect Rizvi to be doing exactly what Rayudu has been doing for so many years. But, of course, we can start developing him and he’s got a lot of natural ability. So, it’s exciting. It’s exciting to see how far he can go.”
Hussey also mentioned that the young player would hold a spot in the middle order. He said, “I think he’ll bat somewhere in the middle order. He’s obviously a natural striker of the ball. I only saw him for the first time yesterday. He looks a very talented young prospect. So, I’m looking forward to working with him personally and just helping him improve his game, obviously for this tournament, but also for the years moving forward. We want him to do well in this IPL, but there’s much more years left in his career.”
