‘Hopefully it’s a good reset for Cricket Scotland’ Says Katheryn Bryce about the women’s team playing in World Cup

As Scotland moved on to play in the finals of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, several cricket fans were left unhappy after Ireland’s loss.

The semi finals of the tournament had Scotland show a very raw side to their gameplay while Ireland team had lost 5 wickets in a span of 7 mere overs. 4 of these wickets were taken by Scotland’s captain Katheryn Bryce, who managed to have 2 of these wickets in the first five balls.

The finals between Scotland and Sri Lanka was missed by Bryce due to some minor issues.

Bryce in Scotland vs Ireland

In the semifinals of women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers, Scotland and Ireland were the two contesting teams.

Since Ireland lost most of its wickets in the 7th over, 4 of them to Katheryn alone, it was a collapse from which Ireland would never fully recover and, needing just 111 to secure a first appearance for Scotland Women at any World Cup, opener Megan McColl and Bryce mowed down most of the target between them, the latter bringing up victory with a four – and making history.

“There was probably a bit of silence almost and they can be quite vocal from the sidelines,” Bryce tells ESPNcricinfo’s Power Play podcast in which she recalls the impact of taking those early Ireland wickets. “But we had a huge amount of support as well. When you get a couple of early wickets in a really important match like that, it can stun a team a little bit.”

“Hopefully it’s a good reset for Cricket scotland” says Bryce on participating in T20 World Cup

Katheryn Bryce seemed almost hopeful about the telecasting of the Women’s T20 World Cup attracting more attention in Scotland. She expects it to cause a sense of relatability within the Scottish Young girls who would in turn, try to learn and play more cricket.

“Hopefully it’s a good sort of reset for Cricket Scotland, to build and be able to rebuild a lot of those branches. I think for the women’s team to be there and leading the way on that, showing and developing, that’ll be a big kick-starter for cricket in the country.”

Katheryn also has a younger sister Sarah, who is also a part of the team as their wicketkeeper and was batting at the other end as Kathryn struck the winning runs against Ireland. Both the sisters had acquired their love for the game in a similar Fashion, as their dad played cricket too.
