“He has got extreme talent”: Shane Bond About Riyan Parag After His Match Winning Performance Against MI

Shane Bond, the assistant coach of Rajasthan Royals (RR), lauded Riyan Parag‘s display during the IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 1. Bond expressed immense admiration for Parag’s performance, emphasizing his significant contribution to the team’s success. Parag’s skill and determination on the field garnered praise from Bond, highlighting his vital role in Rajasthan Royals’ triumph over Mumbai Indians in the enthralling encounter.

Shane Bond on Riyan Parag:

Riyan Parag’s outstanding innings of an unbeaten 54 proved crucial in a match where what seemed like a straightforward chase became challenging. His remarkable performance guided his team to a six-wicket victory. Parag’s composed and resilient batting played a pivotal role in securing the win for his side, showcasing his talent and maturity under pressure.

Following the significant influence of the Assam-born cricketer, Bond drew comparisons between Parag and a young Suryakumar Yadav, who debuted for Mumbai Indians in 2011. Bond, a former New Zealand cricketing icon, hailed Parag as a player possessing ‘exceptional talent’. Notably, he praised Parag for seamlessly translating his domestic success into the IPL arena.

Bond advocated for Parag’s promotion to the No. 4 spot in the batting order for Rajasthan Royals, suggesting it suited the young talent’s abilities perfectly. Parag’s consistent performances have impressed Bond, who sees in him the potential to become a key player for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

During the post-match press conference, Bond said, “He (Riyan Parag) sort of reminds me a little bit of Surya (Suryakumar Yadav), who came to Mumbai a few years ago. He looks like that – he has got extreme talent. He has just matured as a cricketer, even though he is only 22.”

With that, he also said, “He has had an outstanding domestic season, obviously, batting up the order. The trade we made with Devdutt, bringing Avesh in, that was to put Riyan up into a position which was probably better suited.”

Bond on Riyan’s Responsible Mindset:

In addition to his accolades for Riyan Parag, the veteran pace bowler mentioned how Parag, at a young age, was tasked with the finisher’s responsibilities in the IPL, while rival teams relied on seasoned international players. Expressing satisfaction, the legendary pacer noted that the team management is now effectively harnessing the potential of the 22-year-old. This acknowledgment underscores Parag’s growing maturity and the trust placed in him by the Rajasthan Royals’ coaching staff.

He said, “Riyan started so young, you forget that he was 17 or something, playing in one of the toughest spots in a batting line-up of No 6. You look at the characters who finish games around the IPL, they are generally pretty experienced guys.”

H concluded, “Tim Davids, Dave Millers… these are high quality players who play international cricket. Riyan has been tasked with that for a number of years. He is still a very young man, but he has got this wealth of experience behind him now. We are getting the best of him. The investment that RR have made of him, it’s starting to reap the rewards. It is pretty exciting what he could offer for the rest of the season for us.”
