Following India’s 2-1 loss to Australia in the T20I series, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and coach Amol Muzumdar have emphasized the significance of “fitness” and “fielding” as critical areas for the team’s improvement.

Harmanpreet Kaur, addressing the media at the post-match presentations, acknowledged Australia‘s superior performance in white-ball cricket and emphasized the need for India to be more proactive. “In red-ball cricket, we have time to analyze, but in white-ball cricket, we need to be quick and on our toes,” she said. “After this break, we will work on our fitness and fielding and come back stronger.”

Expressing pride in her team’s fighting spirit, Kaur highlighted the positive contributions of the younger players and emphasized the need to learn from the experienced Australian side.

Coach Amol Muzumdar echoed Kaur’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of fielding and fitness in white-ball cricket. He also addressed India’s need to improve their use of the Decision Review System (DRS), acknowledging it as an area for growth.

Reflecting on the recent series against England and Australia, Muzumdar praised the team’s response in various formats, citing the return to Test cricket after nine years as a significant achievement. He also commended the team’s resilience in coping with a demanding schedule and minimal injuries.

Looking ahead, Muzumdar expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance despite the series loss and emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset leading up to the upcoming World Cup.

“At the moment, it’s a happy dressing room,” Muzumdar said. “I know we have not got the result we wanted in this series, but they are in a happy space, and that’s how it should be until the World Cup.”

The Indian women’s cricket team’s focus on fitness, fielding, and continuous improvement reflects their determination to excel on the international stage and make a strong impact in future competitions.
