Mumbai Indians’ fast bowler Gerald Coetzee made headlines in IPL 2024 after recording the fastest delivery of the season, narrowly surpassing Mayank Yadav‘s previous record. Coetzee’s remarkable achievement came during Mumbai Indians‘ match against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium. In the last ball of the match, Coetzee unleashed a scorching delivery clocked at 157.4 kmph, surpassing Yadav’s 155.8 kmph delivery just two days prior.
Mayank Yadav had set the previous record during his debut match for Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings, where he bowled consistently at over 150 kmph and claimed three wickets.

Despite Coetzee’s impressive bowling, Mumbai Indians suffered a defeat against Rajasthan Royals. Coetzee, who was roped in by Mumbai Indians during the mini-auction last December, has had a slow start to the season, with just three wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 11.43.
Coetzee’s performance in IPL 2024 comes on the heels of his standout performance at the 2023 World Cup in India, where he became the first South African bowler to pick 20 wickets in a single edition of the tournament. His success continued in the SA20 last year, where he picked up 23 wickets, leading to his acquisition by Mumbai Indians.
Coetzee missed out on breaking Tait’s record. The Australian fast bowler has the fastest delivery in IPL with 157.71 KPH. Coetzee narrowly missed it as he bowled the fastest delivery at 157.4 KPH.
