Former Indian Cricketer Irfan Pathan Reckons that Pakistan’s Bowling Has been Toothless throughout the Tournament

Though Babar Azam and Co. are known for their exceptional and skillful batting prowess featuring some of the unbeaten and world’s best players, their bowling unit seems to have darkened this quality. One of the most recent instances is the ongoing tournament of the 2023 World Cup where the bowlers have failed to register an impeccable display of performance, having constantly been thrashed by the opponent team’s batsmen.

Today’s match between New Zealand and Pakistan is more than just a game, taking into the fact that the result will lead any one team to buy a ticket into the semi-finals. While New Zealand has performed exceptionally well in the ongoing tournament being one of the World Cup favourites, Pakistan showcased a commendable performance in the beginning, but had a low score in between facing three defeats in a row. After having won the toss, Pakistan chose to field first but the decision turned out terrifying on their part with the Kiwis delivering a magnificent target of 402 runs.

How did the Kiwis reach the 400 mark?

There lies a great contribution by the Pakistani bowling unit in helping the Black Caps dominate the pitch and score such a massive target. With their poor performance display, Pakistani bowlers have broken all records in history having conceded most no. of runs in a single edition of the World Cup. While Pakistani speedster Haris Rauf gave away 85 runs in 10 overs, Shaheen Shah Afridi surpassed Rauf by conceding 90 runs in the same no. of overs. These figures are literally so poor that both of these bowlers have lodged their names in World Record books for such an embarrassing record. Harif Rauf also conceded a total of 15 sixes against New Zealand, which again stands as the highest in a single edition of the World Cup.

Reckoning on the performance throughout!

With Pakistan registering this unwanted record, fans and several former cricketers have been mocking Rauf and Afridi for missing out on a century having conceded 85 and 90 runs. Former Indian Cricketer, Irfan Pathan took to his Twitter handle to assert Pakistan’s unsatisfactory bowling performance remarking “Pakistan’s bowling has been toothless thru out the World Cup”.

Not just Irfan Pathan, earlier Aakash Chopra also took to his Twitter handle to claim that Pakistan’s bowling action has not been up to the mark throughout the tournament.
