Faf Du Plessis returns as the captain for the marquee clash against Lucknow

Faf Du Plessis has returned as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Winning the toss, RCB decided to bat first. It was good to see Faf return as the captain of the side after playing the initial few matches as an impact player.

Du Plessis was playing as an Impact Player but he was unable to enter the field owing to a rib injury sustained during the game against CSK. Faf returning to full fitness is encouraging side for Bangalore going at the back end of the tournament.

On Thursday, April 20, Virat Kohli took the captaincy of RCB once again in their game against PBKS. Before the 2022 season, Kohli gave up his position as team captain, and Faf du Plessis was selected in an auction to fill it. The Indian star had, however, returned as the team’s captain before the PBKS encounter.

Form of the both teams

With four victories and as many defeats in eight games, Royal Challengers Bangalore are fifth in the standings. They suffered a 21-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous game. They have been inconsistent throughout the season, and aside from Kohli, du Plessis, and Maxwell, the rest of their batsmen have been ineffective. The bowling unit has also shown weak, particularly in crucial situations. RCB will be eager to improve upon their performance in this game and maintain their position in the standings.

In contrast, Lucknow Super Giants are third in the standings with 5 victories and 3 defeats in 8 games. They defeated Punjab Kings in their prior game by a score of 56 runs. Stoinis and Mayers were the star of the show helping them post a mammoth score of 257. They will enter this game with a lot of confidence. The Lucknow Super Giants defeated RCB by a single win earlier this season when these two teams previously faced off. It was an exciting last-ball result, and we can anticipate another closely contested match between these two teams.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis(c), Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik(w), Suyash Prabhudessai, Wanindu Hasaranga, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood
