Senior India wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik spoke about the Indian cricket team just ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand later this month. Karthik called Kohli-led side a versatile one and compared to the Ajit Wadekar led squad of 1971. “This is probably the best Indian team that has even been out in the park. I haven’t seen Ajit Wadekar’s 1971 team but I do think this is one of the most versatile, it’s got the greatest number of options in terms of bowling and batting,” Karthik told Sports Today.

Kohli further applauded, “I think this is probably the strongest Test team from the time they started playing. There are some terrific fast bowlers, world-class spinners, a high-class batting line-up and an all-rounder who gives the flexibility to play an extra batter or a bowler. This is probably the best Indian team that has played. Rightfully so, they are playing the World Test Championship final.”

India to Take on Sri Lanka from July 13; Full Schedule Announced

Road to finale

During India’s WCT journey, only one time India failed to win a series and that was against New Zealand. They had obstacles especially in Australia against the mighty Aussies with almost a second-string team but Indian cricket team emerged victorious. The team has superstars in all of the departments and boasts of some of the best contemporary players. No wonder, experts are hailing Indians as favourites but the opponents will not be easy to handle.

India performed well in the group stages of the World Test Championship to claim wins against West Indies and Australia away from home while beating South Africa, Bangladesh, and England at home. Their only series defeat came against the Kiwis and they will be highly motivated to beat New Zealand at Southampton.
