“Difficult Time to Explain”, Asghar Afghan After Playing Last International Match

In his last match for Afghanistan, country’s former captain Asghar Afghan spoke in detail about his decision of taking retirement from international cricket. A teary eyed Afghan also talked about his playing days.

After an important innings of 31 against Namibia, Asghar Afghan was given the guard of honour from his teammates while walking back to the pavilion. Asghar who took sudden retirement from international cricket yesterday told, “I wanted to give away the opportunity for the upcoming youngsters and we’ve played some best cricket but this is a good opportunity for youngsters to come forward. Most of the people have been asking the same question to me, something it’s hard to explain but from the last game it was hard on us and that’s why I’ve decided to leave cricket at this stage.”

When he was asked about the reason and timing of his retirement, he said, “Plenty of memories but it’s very difficult to decide for retirement, I know there are plenty of legends in the cricket watching me but this is difficult time to explain but I have to retire.”

After his solid knock off 23 balls, even Namibia players were seen congratulating the veteran Afghanistan cricketer. Former Afghanistan skipper, Asghar Afghan, was the first Test captain, has featured in over 100 ODIs and 75 T20Is and scored over 4000 international runs in all the three formats combined.
