December 2023 Player of the Month: Stellar Nominees Unveiled for ICC Men’s and Women’s Awards

The year 2023 has been ended. It was one of the most eventful years as per the cricket calendar. The cricket world has witnessed tournaments like the Asia Cup, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, and several thrilling tours. After the year ended, ICC announced the nominations for the men’s and women’s player of the month for December. Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Bangladeshi bowler Taijul Islam, and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips. In the women’s nomination, Zimbabwe’s Precious Marange, India’s Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma are there.

Nominations for ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December:

The last month of the year was contained with some exciting matches. After a break, Australia went back to playing Test format. They locked horns with Pakistan on home soil. The month of December has been amazing for Australian skipper Pat Cummins. In that month, Australia played two Test matches against Pakistan. In the second Test match in Melbourne, he picked up 10 wickets. In these two Test matches, he picked up 13 wickets and completed 250 Test wickets in his career. Because of this amazing performance, he has been nominated for the  ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December.

The next name in this nomination is Bangladeshi bowler Taijul Islam. In December, Bangladesh and New Zealand locked horns in a Test series. In that series, Taijul performed exceptionally well. By his spin magic, he picked up four wickets in the first innings of the first Test match. In the second Test match, Bangladesh faced a defeat but Taijul shined again. He took another five wickets. He is the second nomination for  ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December.

The third nomination on the list is Kiwi player Glenn Phillips. In the series against Bangladesh, he performed exceptionally well. In the second match, his heroics saved the match. In a tough pitch, he played an excellent knock of 87 runs. His match-winning 40 runs were a big asset of New Zealand’s win. Because of this excellent performance, he has been nominated for ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December. 

Nominations for ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December:

The last month was eventful for women’s cricket. There are three names in the nomination list of  ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December. Two players from India are ruling the nominations. The first name is Jemimah Rodrigues. This young woman batter nailed the month by her extraordinary performance. In whites, Jemimah shined the brightest. In two Test matches against England and Australia, she scored above 70 runs. She ended the year with an average of 60 in Tests. in the first ODI match against Australia, she played a knock of 82 runs. With those thrilling performances, she has been nominated for the  ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December.

The second Indian on the list is Deepti Sharma. This player is a true asset to India’s women’s team. In the Test match against England, Deepti was amazing. In the first innings, she scored an amazing 67 runs. Just not with the bat, she created magic in the second ODI against Australia. She picked up 5 wickets in 38 runs. After those sensational performances, he is in the nomination for ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December. 

In a career-defining series last December, Zimbabwe’s seasoned bowler showcased brilliance during the Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. After a solid start with two wickets against Kenya, Marange faced a wicket-less spell against Botswana. However, she roared back with three consecutive Player of the Match performances, including stellar figures of three for 13 against Tanzania and an impressive three for nine against Namibia.
