Dean Jones doesn’t agree with Yuvraj Singh in case of Pant

It seems like Rishabh Pant issue has become a major talking point nowadays. While Pant has a number of experts in his support, he has a bunch of critics as well. Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones came up with his views regarding Rishabh Pant.

Jones encounters Yuvraj

Rishabh Pant’s poor shot selection cost him his wicket on various occasions. On Tuesday, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh showed support for this young talent and said he has the potential to do well and needs guidance from the coach and captain. Yuvraj said to NDTV, “Someone needs to mentor Rishabh according to his character. Suppressing Rishabh won’t get the best out of him. He has a lot of potential, the captain and the coach need to mentor him. Team needs to stop making statements about Rishabh in the media.”

But former Australia star Dean Jones did not agree with Yuvraj. He took to Twitter and countered Yuvraj’s opinion on Pant. Jones wrote, “Why should Pant be any different to any other young player that has made mistakes? It’s big boys cricket. I know he is young.. but he needs to learn some home truths and improve his off- side play.”

The Pant case

After Dhoni, the selectors decided to give preference to Pant as the first-choice wicketkeeper across the formats. Hence post the World Cup Pant was started to be groomed accordingly. The idea is to build a perfect alternative of MS Dhoni. On the same line, reportedly, Dhoni took the extension of leave so that the team management and board can get enough time to try out Pant and other new faces in case Pant fails. With another World Cup ahead in 2020, Pant’s style of throwing wicket is becoming a major issue for the team. Even the head coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli talked about the same in front of media. Moreover, there are keepers like Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are waiting in the reserve to get an opportunity.

So undoubtedly, amid all praise and criticism, it is important for Pant to work on his weakness and get the job done at the soonest.
