Cricket Legend Ian Bell Backs James Anderson’s Vital Role for England in India Tour

Former England cricket star Ian Bell has expressed his confidence in his former teammate James Anderson’s ability to shine in India as the English side gears up for a challenging five-match series scheduled to commence on January 25 next year.

Anderson crucial for the India tour

Following Stuart Broad’s retirement, speculation arose about Anderson’s potential retirement, but the 41-year-old swiftly dispelled such rumours, emphasizing his ongoing commitment to the England squad. Bell believes that Anderson’s experience and skill with the dry ball make him an indispensable asset for the team, especially in the subcontinent conditions.

In a recent conversation with Betfair, Bell shared his insight, stating, “One player England don’t need to worry about losing just yet is James Anderson. Just because Stuart has retired doesn’t make him more likely to follow suit in my opinion. England will need his experience in India, not to mention that reliability to bowl dry. He will have a big job helping this next England seam attack develop.”

Will Bazball work in India

The upcoming tour to India presents a formidable challenge for the England side, requiring adaptability and strategic thinking. Bell acknowledges the success of the team’s recent modifications to their Bazball strategy, leading to victories in two of the last three matches against Australia during the Ashes 2023. The Bazball approach is expected to be employed against India as well, albeit with necessary adjustments tailored to the unique conditions. Bell emphasized England’s ability to learn and adapt during the Ashes, a trait he believes will be crucial against India.

“As Ben Stokes said in the press conference the other day, he’s been asked whether Bazball would work against Pakistan, South Africa, Australia. So, yes, it will be used in India. But it will be an adapted Bazball. That’s what was so good about the Ashes. England showed they could learn and adapt as the series went on. In India, they will need to be smart,” Bell further added.
