Cheteswar Pujara Smashes Stellar Double Century Against Jharkhand, Notches Up 14th First-Class Double Ton

After a break, the domestic season of India came back. From January 5, the prestigious tournament of the domestic season, the Ranji Trophy has started. Along with many budding cricketers, many experienced cricketers are taking part in this tournament. Similarly, Cheteswar Pujara is playing for his home team Saurashtra. While playing against Jharkhand, Cheteswar Pujara smashed a double ton. 

Classic Double Ton of Pujara:

Veteran Indian batter Cheteswar Pujara has not been in the playing XI of the Indian team for a while. But his bat is at work. In this domestic season, Pujara is playing for his home team, Saurashtra. In the first match, they faced Jharkhand. Against them, Pujara scored an amazing double hundred which caught the limelight. Through this Classic double ton, he registered his 17th double hundred in first-class cricket. 

On the first fixture of the Ranji Trophy,  Saurashtra met Jharkhand at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. On the third day of the match, Pujara registered his 17th double ton. That was an outstanding innings from the Indian batter. Pujara scored his double ton in 317 balls in the 144th over of the match. That was an incredible innings. The batter is still unbeaten on 236 runs in 352 balls. He smashed 29 sixes so far. He also overtook VVS Laxman to score the fourth-most first-class runs among Indians in the history of the game.

Exclusion from the Indian Team and Aim to Come Back:

In the longest format of cricket, Cheteswar Pujara has been the backbone of Team India for a long time. In the historic victory of team India against Australia in 2018-19, Pujara played a pivotal role. In many matches, he has been the wall for the team. His patience is one of the major keys to his success. His tenacious innings troubles the bowlers. 

Team India completed the tour of South Africa. They have drawn the Test series against South Africa. Their next Test series will be against England. Pujara is not been a part of India’s Team for a while. He played in the Test championship final. After that, he didn’t feature in the team. The squad for the Test series against England will be decided soon. Pujara’s double ton came at a good time. Selectors may name him in the squad after this excellent inning.
