Buttler fined for showing dissent after dismissal? Find out

Jos Buttler was fine 10% of his match fees during last night’s IPL match as per an IPL press release. Although the nature of the offence was not clarified, Buttler was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

IPL release says

An IPL release revealed, “Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler has been fined 10 Percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 11.”
It further added, “Buttler admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.” Reportedly, the Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct deals with the players’ “behaviour that brings the game into disrepute”.

What happened?

The offence was not clarified but it was probably because of the dissent Buttler showed after getting run-out on Thursday. During Rajasthan’s chase of 150 runs against Kolkata, in the fourth ball of the second over, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the non-striker set off for a single despite a no from Buttelr. But meanwhile, Jaiswal was halfway through the crease. Buttler took a final chance eventually but failed to get to the other end. Buttler who was well short of his crease was run-out. He sacrificed his wicket for the ever stunning 21-year-old but upon dismissal, shook his head in disappointment. The dissent continued while he was walking back to the pavilion as well.

However, making Jaiswal stay in the middle turned out to be fruitful. Rajasthan won the match comfortably as the youngster ended up scoring this fastest IPL fifty off just 13 balls. He remained unbeaten on 98 off 47 and won the match for his side by 9 wickets along with the skipper Sanju Samson (48 off 29).
