Budding Talents Unleashed: Arjun Tendulkar Joins BCCI’s Elite Camp at NCA

In a move to nurture and elevate the young talent in Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a three-week camp at the prestigious National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Joining the ranks of promising cricketers is none other than Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

BCCI’s handpicked individuals

The BCCI has handpicked individuals who have showcased exceptional skills with both the bat and ball, whether in domestic leagues or the highly acclaimed Indian Premier League (IPL). This camp aims to sharpen the existing talents and equip them with the necessary tools to excel at the highest level.

The selection process for this camp was carried out by the senior national selection committee, with former Indian opener Shiv Sunder Das leading the committee on an interim basis. Commenting on the camp, a senior BCCI source revealed, “There is an Emerging Asia Cup (U-23) also later this year and BCCI is looking at potential youngsters. The all-rounders camp is an idea of NCA’s head of cricket VVS Laxman to ensure that we develop a lot of multi-skilled players across formats.”

Arjun Tendulkar selected as well

While not every player summoned for the camp is a pure all-rounder, the focus is to identify and develop the potential of these players and help them make a seamless transition to the next level, according to the BCCI source.

Joining Arjun Tendulkar at the camp are other promising young cricketers, including Saurashtra’s talented left-arm pacer and batter, Chetan Sakariya, who had also represented India in 2021, and Abhishek Sharma, the stylish southpaw all-rounder from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi’s Harsit Rana, previously called up as a net bowler for the senior Indian team, has also been given the opportunity to showcase his skills.

When questioned about Arjun Tendulkar’s selection, despite his modest recent performances, the BCCI source emphasized his potential, highlighting his century in the Ranji Trophy debut for Goa and his left-arm pace bowling, which adds variety to the team’s arsenal. Defending the decision, the source further stated, “Arjun already has a Ranji Trophy century. A left-arm pacer who bowls between early and mid 130 kmph and bats left-handed. He brings in variety.”
