Former Australian wrist spinner backs Kohli to open for India in T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has the habit of staying in the news whether he is playing or not. The right-hander creates quite a buzz on social media as it gives content creators and former cricketers much-needed attention.

Hogg Speaks

In a recent development former Australian wrist spinner Brad Hogg who is also active on social media has backed Virat Kohli to open in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“If Virat Kohli is playing in the T20 World Cup, I would like to see him opening the batting with Rohit Sharma. That’s where I think he can get the best out of him with the fields up and he can use the pace.

At the backend, if you have one of Rohit or Virat batting through the innings, you could have perfect stabilization,” said Hogg on his YouTube channel.

Difference in Opinion

On the other hand, former Indian batter Suresh Raina believes that Kohli should not tinker with his batting position come the T20 World Cup.

“I think Kohli should bat at No. 3. His experience will bring some solidity, especially in the challenging pitches in the US and the Caribbean. There are fearless, young cricketers like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, or Shubman Gill, but Rohit and Kohli will give the unit a lot of solidity. Their presence is very important when we chase a target, especially in a high-pressure event like the World Cup,” said Raina as quoted by India Today.

Talking about Kohli’s recent performances the right-hander has played only two T20Is since the Semi Final of the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia.

Having said that he was in magnificent form in IPL 2023 as the former Indian captain ended up scoring more than 500 runs in the season
