The story

The thrilling finale of the ICC U19 World Cup final between India and Bangladesh ended by Bangladesh winning it for the first time by three wickets in D/L method. Since the beginning of the game, Bangladesh players were showing aggression on-field and trying to get under the skin of the Indian players. In the second over of the match, Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up the ball and threw it towards Divyaansh Saxena after the India opener tapped the ball back to the bowler. Then it incident was followed by a bit of staring and bad mouth before the umpire intervened.

Similarly, when Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed the bowler Shoriful Islam gave him an animated send-off. Lastly, at the end of the match, the players got involved in a physical altercation. The whole issue was criticized a lot especially for maligning the gentleman’s game.

Bedi shares his disappointment

Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi could not resist of sharing his thoughts on the same. A furious Bedi went on to criticise Indian players as Bangladesh players’ behaviour is not an Indian issue. “Look, what Bangladesh do is their problem, what our boys do is our problem. You could see that there was abusive language used.”

In the interaction with the Mid-Day, he further opined that there cannot be an excuse for bad behaviour. “You bat, bowl and field badly…happens, but there’s no excuse for behaving badly. The behaviour was disgusting and most disgraceful. The innocence of that age was not visible at all.”

Bedi also spoke about the overage issue and showed his disappointment over it. “India, Pakistan and Bangladesh…all Asian teams which made the semi-finals…you could tell from a country mile that the players were not under-19. Few years ago, Rahul Dravid spoke about the overage issue. What has happened to us? I am very disappointed.”
