BCCI to Release Advertisement for New Coach, Shah Reveals Long-Term Appointment Plans

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to release an advertisement for a new coach, as revealed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Rahul Dravid‘s tenure as the coach ends in June, and Shah stated that Dravid is free to apply for the position again if he wishes to do so.

The selection of other coaching staff members, such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, will be decided after consultation with the new coach. Shah did not rule out the possibility of appointing a foreign coach, leaving the decision open-ended. The appointment of the new coach will be for a long term, with an initial period of three years

“Rahul’s tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so,” the BCCI secretary said. Other members of the coaching staff, such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, will be decided after consultation with the new coach. Shah did not rule out the possibility of a foreign coach and left the issue open-ended.”

“We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body,” the BCCI official said, hinting that the board is unlikely to consider different coaches for different formats, a system adopted by boards like the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and even the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB),” he added.

Jay Shah talks about the Impact Player Rule

The decision on whether to continue with the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be made after consultation with captains and coaches. The rule allows two extra Indian players to be included in an IPL side.

“Impact player was a test case. Two new Indian players are getting a chance in the IPL,” Jay Shah when asked about the Impact Player Rule.

“We will discuss with the stakeholders – franchises and broadcasters – before deciding on the continuation of the Impact Player. It’s not permanent, but no one has provided feedback against the rule,” he said.

The structure of domestic cricket will be unveiled soon, and the High-Performance Centre at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will be operational from August. Shah also confirmed that Hardik Pandya, who has been awarded an A grade in Central Contracts, has agreed to play white-ball domestic cricket.
