Bangladesh Suffers Setback as Talented Pacer Ruled Out of World Cup Due to Knee Injury

In a disheartening setback for the Bangladesh cricket team, the spirited pace bowler Ebadot Hossain has been compelled to bid adieu to the upcoming World Cup in India due to a nagging knee injury. Having already been sidelined from the Asia Cup, Ebadot’s unfortunate knee condition will now necessitate surgical intervention, rendering him unavailable for cricketing action for an estimated three to four months.

BCB broke the disheartening news

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, shared the news, revealing that Ebadot’s absence is attributed to his knee’s troubled state. “The news is somber for us, as Ebadot’s knee requires surgery, leaving him out of contention for the World Cup. After the procedure, the rehabilitation process will extend over the course of three to four months, thus making his participation in the World Cup unfeasible,” Abedin lamented.

Ebadot’s void in the squad poses a significant challenge for Bangladesh, robbing them of a potent pace asset who had accumulated 22 wickets in just 12 One Day Internationals (ODIs). His absence is deeply felt by both the team’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, and the head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha.

Shakib Al Hasan disappointed with the news

Shakib Al Hasan, expressing his disappointment during a pre-Asia Cup press conference, acknowledged the void left by Ebadot. “It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team. Ebadot is one of our impact bowlers, the fastest bowler out of the five fast bowlers we played in the last few series. So, it’s a big loss,” Hathurusingha echoed the sentiment, highlighting the challenge of finding an immediate replacement.

Ebadot’s injury woes originated during the ODI series against Afghanistan, where he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last month. This unfortunate turn of events has left Bangladesh grappling with the absence of a promising fast bowler, who was poised to play a pivotal role in their World Cup campaign.

In the wake of Ebadot’s departure, the spotlight now falls on Tanzim Sakib, the replacement for Ebadot in the Asia Cup squad. As the preparations for the Asia Cup continue, the cricket fraternity watches with anticipation to see if Sakib’s performances earn him a place in the World Cup lineup.
