Bangladesh Skipper, Hasan Concerned about the Team’s Batting Woes

Bangladesh’s Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan expressed his concern over the batting woes that Bangladesh is facing in the ongoing Asia Cup. Apart from the game against the Afghans, where the batting lineup was carried by two players Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh batters have failed to create a mark.

Challenges in Asia Cup

After losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka, their next challenge in Super 4s is India, which will not be an easy outing for the men in green. After the 21-run defeat against the Lankas, the Bangladesh Skipper, Shakib Al Hasan said, “We are concerned with our batting and we need to see those areas and work on it so that we can rectify those areas. This tournament before the World Cup will be hugely beneficial because we need to have a reality check”

Big names like Litton Das, Mohammad Naim and Mushfiqur Rahim, have failed in their role to build strong innings for their side. Apart from the match against Pakistan, Rahim’s outing in the Asia Cup has not been memorable. Against Sri Lanka, Rahim looked optimistic but failed to convert his innings into a big total.

Shakib also feels that Naim needs to work on his mental game, to improve his stats as an opener. He said “Naim played in four matches and got the start in every game and what I feel is that if someone can score 20 runs he can score 80 runs or 100 runs. He is getting out after getting a start so he needs to work on mental aspects rather than skill.”

Final Test Before the World Cup

The skipper is looking forward to the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand, he feels that his team has still got a chance to rectify their mistakes. He also feels that players who are in the squad for the World Cup need some rest, in order to be fresh for the big outing.

He explained, “There are three matches against New Zealand and we want to try a couple of things and everyone has a chance. The cricketers who are confirmed in the World Cup might be rested because there are practice matches and travelling (in the World Cup) and if someone is injured we will be in trouble because we don’t have big bench strength. It is very important that everyone remains fit. Ebadat is not there and I hope the other four pace bowlers remain fit”.
