Yesterday World Cup 2019 saw one of the best innings getting unfolded. Babar Azam scored an unbeaten century (101*) to keep Pakistan’s dream alive for the mega tournament. The Pakistan coach now believes that the batsman has everything to match Virat Kohli. He believes Babar Azam has the same hunger as Virat Kohli.
Achievement for Babar
On his way to the life-saving innings for his team, Babar also crossed a few milestones. He became the second fastest batsman to cross 3000 one day runs. Moreover, the 24-year old has even defeated his idol Virat Kohli in the same race. Hashim Amla is the quickest one to do so in 57 innings whereas Kohli did the same in 75 innings. Babar Azam achieved the feat in 68 innings. Earlier he did better than Kohli while getting to the 1000 and 2000 run marks as well. The way he chased down the target of 238 by carrying the innings from 110/3, it reminded the fans and experts of Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper. Kohli is famous for his expertise in the successful chase.
The Coach Speaks
The batting coach of Pakistan cricket team, Grant Flower said that the young Babar Azam has the same hunger as Kohli. He thinks that the Pakistan batter has all quality to emerge as one of the best Pakistan batsmen. When asked about the comparison between Kohli and Babar, he said, “I think he’ll have a really good career if he keeps his feet on the ground, which I think he will. He’s got Virat’s hunger. I think he could be at some point in the future.”
Flower informed how the flu couldn’t stop Babar Azam. According to the coach, the batsman had been suffering from flu for the last couple of days so this century was special. In fact, he said, “Confidence-wise, this is definitely his best one (century).” The fact that the century came on a difficult track made the innings one of the best of his career.
