Australian Player Aaron Hardie Pulls Out of Surrey Deal for Workload Management

Cricket Australia withdraws Aaron Hardie from Surrey stint to manage workload. Hardie, after a busy winter across formats, was scheduled for a three-month stint with Surrey. However, CA’s decision aims to ensure his fitness and well-being by controlling his workload effectively.

Aaron Hardie’s Absence in Surrey:

Cricket Australia has opted to withdraw 25-year-old allrounder Aaron Hardie from his planned three-month stint with Surrey to manage his workload effectively. Hardie was set to join Surrey from May to July, participating in the County Championship and the full Vitality Blast group stages. This decision comes after Hardie’s extensive schedule during the winter across various formats.

Hardie’s recent engagements include making his debut for Australia in T20I and ODI cricket during the tour of South Africa in August and September 2023. Additionally, he played significant roles in the series against India and West Indies. Amidst these international commitments, Hardie also played a pivotal role for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League, even captaining the side in later stages, including their play-off clash against Adelaide Strikers.

Currently, Hardie is gearing up to represent Western Australia in the upcoming Sheffield Shield final. The region is aiming to secure its third consecutive title. Despite the withdrawal from Surrey, Hardie remains an integral part of Australian cricket, balancing between domestic and international commitments while focusing on maintaining his fitness and performance levels.

Alec Stewart’s Words:

As per recent reports, Surrey is not looking for any replacement. He said, “ Whilst we are obviously very disappointed that Aaron will not be joining the team this summer, I respect the decision of Cricket Australia and wish Aaron the very best.”

Having previously played for Surrey in 2022, Aaron Hardie was among the three overseas players signed by the club for the 2024 season. His compatriot, Sean Abbott, is set to participate in both the County Championship and T20 Blast from May to June. Meanwhile, West Indies bowler Kemar Roach will represent Surrey in the first seven matches of the County Championship at the Kia Oval.
