Asad Shafiq and Abdul Razzaq Appointed to Pakistan Women’s Selection Panel

In response to Pakistan’s recent 3-0 ODI series defeat against West Indies on home turf, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has undergone a significant restructuring of its national women’s selection committee. Under the leadership of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the committee has been expanded, now comprising seven members. This decision reflects the board’s proactive approach to address shortcomings and strategize for improved performance in future international fixtures, signaling a commitment to bolstering the women’s cricket setup.

PCB Release About Expanding Members:

As per a recent announcement by the PCB, the revamped national women’s selection committee retains former Pakistan cricketers Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal. They are joined by Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, both associated with the men’s national selection committee, along with former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Batool Fatima.

Additionally, the head coach and captain, currently Mohtashim Rasheed and Nida Dar respectively, will also serve on the seven-member panel. Notably, former fast bowler Saleem Jaffar has been omitted from the committee. This move underscores the PCB’s commitment to rejuvenating the women’s cricket setup with experienced and diverse perspectives.

Women’s National Selection Committee Members are Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Asmavia Iqbal, Batool Fatima, Marina Iqbal, Captain and head Coach.

The inaugural assignment for the freshly constituted selection committee is to finalize the squad for Pakistan’s imminent tour of England. The tour encompasses three T20Is and three ODIs slated from May 11 to 29. Notably, all three ODIs form integral fixtures of the ongoing ICC ODI Women’s Championship 2022-25. With this pivotal series on the horizon, the new committee faces the crucial task of assembling a competitive squad to represent Pakistan on the international stage.

Pakistan’s Position in Women’s Championship Table:

Pakistan currently holds the fifth position on the women’s championship table, tallying eight victories and enduring 13 defeats across 21 ODIs. Positioned ahead of them on the points table are Australia, South Africa, England, and New Zealand. Notably, the top five teams from the championship, in addition to hosts India, will secure direct qualification for the 2025 ODI Women’s World Cup. Conversely, the remaining teams will contend in a qualifier tournament to earn their spot in the prestigious event. Pakistan’s quest to solidify their position in the standings underscores the significance of their upcoming fixtures.

Pakistan’s Recent Performance Against West Indies:

Pakistan commenced their ODI series against West Indies with a heavy 113-run defeat, followed by a narrow two-wicket loss in the second encounter, and ultimately succumbed to an 88-run defeat in the third match.
