Five-time World Cup champion Australia is currently facing South Africa in Lucknow in match 10 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Having won the toss initially, the Australian side chose to bowl first, leaving South Africa with the option to bat. South Africa immaculately chased a target of 311 runs for 7 wickets down. Opener Quinton de Kock played a beautiful knock, smashing a 109-run century off 106 balls. However, the Australian side has been exposed to a controversial decision that came off the third umpire. Team Australia was already five wickets down when batter Marcus Stoinis’s wicket also came upon their side. Though Marcus’s wicket proved crucial for South Africa, the batter expressed great discontent over the decision and argued with the umpire.Â
A series of events resulted in Marcus’s dismissal
South African bowler Kagiso Rabada took down Marcus Stoinis, resulting in the sixth wicket of Australia’s batting line-up. Stoinis only managed to score five runs when he was caught by Rabada. The catch was taken by Quinton de Kock, but the issue sprang up when the Proteas believed that it was a wicket, but Stoinis didn’t confirm the decision and was unconvinced. The decision was put off to a review by the third umpire, who then upheld the decision.
This is not the only controversial decision that loomed large over Australia; Steve Smith’s wicket also proved disputable on the Australian side. On being considered a wicket, Marcus was doubtful whether the ball touched the bat or the glove, though the catch by de Kock was rather a clean one.
