Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from all form of cricket

A heartbroken Ambati Rayudu finally calls it off. After being ignored twice for World Cup selection Ambati Rayudu finally decided to quit from all form of cricket.

Ambati Rayudu was the shortlisted candidate for the initial provisional World Cup squad for India. Then Vijay Shankar was preferred over him during the final selection. The Chairman of Selectors M.S.K Prasad described Vijay as a 3D player while justifying the selection. Rayudu mocked the statement and questioned the selectors’ decision to pick Shankar over him.

When Shikhar Dhawan was injured hurt and had to leave the World Cup a few weeks back, a lot expected Rayudu to fill in. But Rishabh Pant was called in. A day before Vijay Shankar went out of the tournament due to the toe injury. Yet again a ray of was seen for Rayudu. But this time Mayank Agarwal, without any ODI experience got the preference.

A Modest Run

The middle-order batsman, who was number four stay in the Indian team for quite a few matches, hasn’t even stated any reason for his such bizarre decision. On Tuesday Iceland Cricket offered Rayudu permanent residency in their country and a position their cricket team.

In the 50 ODI innings Rayudu has scored 1694 runs at an average of 47.05 with a top score of 124*. His kitty has three centuries and 10 fifties and has a strike rate of 79.04. He played 24 matches at the most anticipated fourth position and scored 750 runs so far with an average of 41.66. He had also questioned the selectors’ decision to pick Shankar over him with a tweet that mocked a statement by the head selector.

Rayudu’s Official Resignation E-mail to BCCI

“I would like to bring to your kind notice that I have come to decision to step away from the sport and retire from all forms and levels of the game. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the BCCI and all the state associations that I have represented which include Hyderabad, Baroda, Andhra and Vidharbha. I also would like to thank the two IPL franchises MI and CSK for their support. It has been a honour and privilege to have represented our country.

I would like to thank the captains I have played under, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and especially Virat Kohli who always had shown great belief in me throughout my career with the Indian team. It has been a wonderful journey of playing the sport and learning from every up and down it brought up on for the last 25 years at various different levels. Finally I would like to thank my family and all the wellwishers who have been with me throughout this wonderful journey.
