After 24 Years, Australia Set to Return to Pakistan

As Pakistan are set to meet Australia in the first semi-final of T20 World Cup 2021, the news of Australia’s first tour to Pakistan in over 24 years broke. Australia will be traveling to Pakistan to play a full series in March 2022.

Australia last visited Pakistan in 1998. Now reportedly they are scheduled to play a full series in Pakistan next year. They will be three Tests, three ODIs, and an one-off T20I and the matches will be held across Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The Tests stating on March 3 will be part of World Test Championship. The ODIs will be part of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

Ramiza Raja, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairwan was quoted in Australia release saying, “I am delighted to welcome Australia to Pakistan. From a personal point of view, it pleases me no end that we’ll be engaged in a three-Test match series, connoisseurs delight.”

He added, “Australia are one of the high-performing sides and them playing in our backyard for the first time after a gap of 24 years will be a special treat for the fans.” He continued, “Likewise, it will be a great opportunity for the Australia cricketers to not only play at our iconic venues but also feel and enjoy the respect, love and hospitality that this great country offers, something which most of their previous generation of cricketers missed out by playing offshore.”

A Cricket Australia delegation is expected to visit Pakistan and meet with PCB officials along with provincial and federal authorities to discuss and finalise matters relating to team operations, logistics, security and Covid-19 protocols.
