Aakash Chopra Raises Questions Over Shivam Dube’s Exclusion in SA vs IND T20I Series

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has voiced concerns over the selection process of Team India for the T20I series against South Africa, particularly highlighting the dropping of all-rounder Shivam Dube. Chopra, known for his candid opinions, questioned the rationale behind Dube’s exclusion, pointing out the inconsistency in his recent selection.

Shivam Dube, who showcased promising performances for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023, was included in the five-match T20I series against Australia but didn’t feature in a single match. Surprisingly, he was then omitted from the 17-member squad for the T20I series in South Africa.

Akash Chopra said

Chopra took to X to express his thoughts on Dube’s exclusion, stating, “Sometimes you wonder about selections and certain players. India picked Shivam Dubey for a 5-match T20i series vs Australia. Didn’t play him in a single match. Now, he doesn’t make it to the 17-member squad vs SA. How does one communicate this to a player?”

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee did not provide any explanation for leaving out Shivam Dube from the squad for the South Africa tour.

In the absence of key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah, Team India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, faces a challenge in the T20I series against South Africa. The team boasts the return of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and opener Shubman Gill, adding depth to the squad.

As the T20I series unfolds, questions linger about the selection strategy and the communication of decisions to the players, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny faced by the Indian selection process.
