Yuzvendra Chahal Becomes First Bowler to Take 200 Wickets in IPL; AB De Villiers reacts

Yuzvendra Chahal created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the tournament. He achieved this milestone during the IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Chahal, who was on 199 wickets before the game, dismissed Mohammad Nabi to reach the double century of wickets in the cash-rich league.

Despite not being part of the Indian team and without a central contract, Chahal has maintained his form in white-ball cricket. The cricket fraternity praised the legendary bowler on social media for his remarkable achievement.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan congratulated Chahal, calling him the “King of bowling in the IPL” and praised his legendary numbers. Renowned commentator Ravi Shastri lauded Chahal’s achievement, describing 200 wickets as a significant feat and highlighting his consistency over the years. Cricketer Robin Uthappa also congratulated Chahal on reaching the milestone.

AB de Villiers, former South African cricketer and Chahal’s teammate, referred to him as the “king of bowling in the IPL,” applauding his achievement.

Ab De Villiers praised Chahal

De Villiers tweeted, “Yuzvendra Chahal! The king of bowling in the IPL. Number 1. Well done @yuzi_chahal”

Rajasthan Royals, Chahal’s IPL team, praised him as an entertainer and everyone’s favorite, highlighting his ability to make people smile one moment and take wickets the next. They hailed him as a fighter who never backs down, noting that he is the first bowler in IPL history to reach 200 wickets while wearing the team’s Pink jersey.

In IPL 2024, Chahal has taken 13 wickets at an average of 17.15 and an economy rate of 8.25, sharing the top spot with Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has also taken 13 wickets so far.

Overall, Chahal has taken 200 wickets in 153 IPL games, with an average of 21.39 and an economy rate of 7.69. He has taken one five-wicket haul and six four-wicket hauls.

Chahal, however, is not focusing on his place in the Indian team. He stated, “I have stopped thinking about it as it is not in my hands. I am enjoying my performance at the moment. I know it is an honor to play for the country, and I will be ready the moment the opportunity comes, but I don’t think on these lines anymore.”
