Yuvraj Singh Praises Rinku Singh as Best Left-Handed Batter in India, Calls for Improvement from Shubman Gill

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has commended Rinku Singh for his impressive performances in T20I cricket, likening his style to his own. Yuvraj highlighted Rinku’s recent success with the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023 and his subsequent call-up to the national team for the Ireland series as signs of his promising talent. He praised Rinku’s aggressive batting style and consistency, suggesting that these qualities could secure him a spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Speaking about Rinku, Yuvraj remarked that the young batter reminds him of himself, emphasizing Rinku’s ability to handle pressure and make crucial contributions to the team. Yuvraj expressed confidence in Rinku’s potential, stating that he believes Rinku has the skills to become a dependable finisher for the team.

“I don’t want to put pressure on him, but I truly believe he has the skill to do what I used to – to be the finisher who delivers at No.5 or 6,” Yuvraj mentioned while talking to The Telegraph.

However, Yuvraj also offered advice to another young talent, Shubman Gill, urging him to work harder in Test cricket. Gill has faced challenges in both red-ball and white-ball formats recently, with Yuvraj noting his below-par performance in the Test series against South Africa. Yuvraj stressed the importance of excelling in all formats to be considered among the best in the world.

“Shubman needs to work harder in Test cricket. If you want to be the best in the world, you have to conquer all formats,” the two-time World Cup winner said.

Notably, in the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali, Gill showed promise but failed to convert his start into a substantial score. With competition for spots in the T20I team heating up, Gill’s performance in the upcoming matches will be crucial to secure his place.

Yuvraj’s insights provide valuable perspectives on the performances of young Indian batters and the challenges they face as they strive to establish themselves in international cricket.
