Yuvraj Singh on Mumbai Indians Captaincy: Rohit Sharma for One More Season, Hardik Pandya as Vice-Captain

Yuvraj Singh, the legendary all-rounder, expressed his opinion on the Mumbai Indians’ captaincy, stating that he would have given Rohit Sharma one more year as the captain. Explore more about Yuvraj Singh’s take on Mumbai Indians’ Captaincy.

Mumbai Indians made a bold decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as the captain after he was traded in from the Gujarat Titans, a move that initially faced backlash from fans and critics alike.

Yuvraj, speaking on Star Sports, acknowledged that removing Rohit as the skipper was a significant decision. He suggested bringing in someone like Hardik but keeping Rohit as captain for one more season and allowing Hardik to be the vice-captain to observe how the franchise functions.

“Rohit Sharma is a 5-time IPL winner as a captain. Removing him is a big decision. I would have gotten someone in, like they brought Hardik (Pandya), but I still would have given Rohit one more season and let Hardik be the vice-captain and see how the whole franchise works,” said Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj further mentioned that he understands the franchise’s perspective in looking towards the future but emphasized that Rohit is currently captaining India and performing well, making it a significant decision to replace him.

“I understand from the franchise’s point of view, they have to see the future of the franchise. But then again, Rohit is captaining India and still playing well, so it’s a big decision,” added Yuvraj.

Yuvraj also pointed out that while Hardik has great talent, managing a franchise like Mumbai Indians would be different from leading Gujarat Titans. He highlighted that there would be high expectations given Mumbai Indians’ stature as a five-time IPL champion.

“In terms of talent, yes, he has great talent. Being captain of Gujarat will be different from being captain of Mumbai. Expectations are a lot. Mumbai Indians have been a big side,” explained Yuvraj Singh.

Despite not being the skipper for MI this year, Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team during the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the US.
