Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra is optimistic about Rachin Ravindra’s potential to shine in the IPL 2024 season with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), especially in light of Devon Conway’s injury. Ravindra showcased his talent during the ODI World Cup 2023, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 578 runs from 10 matches, including three centuries. CSK secured his services for INR 1.80 crore in the IPL Auction 2024.
Chopra believes that Ravindra can effectively fill the void left by Conway’s absence. Despite Ravindra’s modest T20 record, Chopra praised his all-round abilities and predicted that he could be a key player for CSK.
He stated, “However, let’s be fair, his T20 numbers are not good. T20 numbers not being good and playing for CSK is a good thing. So you might see Rachin Ravindra’s T20 avatar now. Left-handed opener and left-arm spin, he has all the ingredients to become the most valuable player.”
Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, will kick off their title defense against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, March 22, at Chepauk. Chopra’s confidence in Ravindra stems from the young cricketer’s recent performances, including his success in Tests and his strong showing in the ODI World Cup.
He believes that Ravindra’s current form makes him a valuable asset for CSK and that fans might witness a transformation in his T20 game while playing for the franchise.
