Another successful IPL season has come to almost end. After the group stage wrapped up, cricket enthusiasts are enjoying the playoff stage. After having an amazing season, Kolkata Knight Riders became the first team to secure the playoff stage. Even in the qualifier one, they defeated SRH and qualified for the final. After that dazzling display by the Knights, former cricketer Shane Watson praised KKR captain Shreyas Iyer.

/The IPL 2024 started on an exciting note for Kolkata Knight Riders. Before the season started, Gautam Gambhir joined the franchise as a mentor. After missing the whole previous season, Shreyas Iyer also made a comeback. Since the beginning, they have been exceptional. Their domination in the season was notable.  The opponents struggled to stop them. With that excellence, they qualified for the playoffs as the first team. 

After qualifying into the playoffs, they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad in the qualifier one. In that match, they were dominating since the beginning. While bowling in the first innings, the KKR bowlers showcased their power. Mitchell Starc shined with 3 wickets and Varun Chakravarthy secured two wickets. In the second innings, with the batting masterclasses, Kolkata secured its place in the IPL 2024 final.

Watson Lauded Iyer:

During the whole season, KKR showcased their excellence. Along with the performances, Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy was a big boost for the team. He led the team from the front and secured wins. Even with the bat, he was exceptional. In the qualifier one against SRH, he played a crucial unbeaten knock of 58 runs in 24 balls with a strike rate of 241.67. That knock secured the great win. 

Former Australian player Shane Watson is highly impressed by Iyer’s performance and praised him. He said, “Yeah, he played a crucial innings as well. He’s batted nicely through this IPL. But to be able to put on a dominant display like he did 58 is a very impressive time as well.”

In this season, Shreyas Iyer has amassed 345 runs at a strike rate of 146.19, showcasing exceptional form. His unbeaten half-century in the last match was a big boost to secure the 8-wicket win and qualifying for the final. 

While lauding Iyer, he said, “Shreyas Iyer as a leader has had a lot of success, he’s getting the best of the people around him. It’s not just him doing his thing and performing well, the team around him are doing very well, which is a telltale sign that you as a leader doing a great job.”

Later he added, “You’re not suffocating players around you by putting too much pressure on you, just allowing people to have that freedom to play their very best. And tonight they were all very, very good.”
