Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Spectacular Test Series Performance Earns Praise and Calls for ODI Debut

India‘s Test series victory against England was not only a testament to the team’s dominance but also a showcase of emerging talent. Among the standout performers was 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose stellar performance earned him the Player of the Series award.

Jaiswal’s remarkable achievement did not go unnoticed, as former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif praised the youngster for his exceptional batting display. Speaking on the Star Sports show Follow The Blues, Kaif highlighted Jaiswal’s consistency and composure, suggesting that he deserves an opportunity in white-ball cricket, particularly in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

“The sample size is very small, but we have been seeing Jaiswal for many years. We have seen him in the Ranji Trophy and the IPL. He played splendidly in the IPL, and he is an incredible player,” Kaif remarked, emphasizing Jaiswal’s versatility across all formats.

“He has not yet made his ODI debut. Give him an ODI debut as well. He is an all-format player, whether you talk about ODIs, T20s or Tests. As a batter, he has both defensive and attacking techniques, when he makes up his mind and if it is required, he can go from the first to the sixth or seventh gear. Hitting Anderson for three sixes in three balls in a Test match shows how capable a batter he is,” Kaif added.

Despite not yet making his ODI debut, Jaiswal has demonstrated his prowess as an all-format player. His ability to switch between defensive and attacking techniques has been evident throughout the series. Kaif noted Jaiswal’s fearless approach, exemplified by his ability to take on bowlers like James Anderson, whom he dispatched for three consecutive sixes in a Test match.

Reflecting on Jaiswal’s performance, Kaif commended his ability to maintain composure and stick to his game plan, even against formidable bowlers like Anderson. Jaiswal’s two double-centuries and three half-centuries in the series underscore his dominance over England’s bowling attack.

“He didn’t look flustered at all, whether it was Bazball, or either Anderson or any bowler in front of him. It’s not easy for a youngster to use his game plan so well, but Jaiswal showed that by doing it,” Kaif remarked, highlighting Jaiswal’s maturity and adaptability on the field.

With his exceptional performance in the Test series, Jaiswal has undoubtedly staked his claim for an ODI debut, and cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting his next opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage.
