Yash Dayal talks about Virat Kohli’s advice to cope criticism

In a crucial IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Yash Dayal’s impressive final over secured Royal Challengers Bangalore’s spot in the playoffs. With CSK needing 35 runs to win and 17 to qualify for the playoffs, Dayal held his nerve under immense pressure, allowing just 7 runs in the over and taking the crucial wicket of MS Dhoni.

The Defining Moment

Dayal’s dismissal of Dhoni on the second ball of the final over was pivotal. After being hit for a 110-meter six by Dhoni, Dayal managed to trap him at deep square leg with a slower delivery. This wicket significantly reduced Chennai Super King’s chances of chasing the target.

Post-Match Comments

At the press conference, Dayal shared his thoughts on the intense final over. “I was quite nervous but my goal was to bowl good balls. Seniors were standing around me and I had their support. I was bowling the most important over of the match, the final over, and I think it was MS Dhoni’s wicket that was the turning point of the game,” he said.

Dayal also mentioned how he managed to stay focused despite the pressure. “When I got hit for the first six, I subconsciously went into that place (Rinku Singh over), but I told myself that I have done well since then and I focused on bowling good balls rather than watching the scoreboard,” he added.

Praise for Team Support

Dayal praised the support from the RCB camp, particularly from captain Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli. “Faf du Plessis is an unbelievable captain. He is a proper athlete and he brings so much positivity to the field. When him and Virat Kohli are around, you don’t feel pressure,” he concluded.

Yash Dhayal said “When I was picked by RCB, i remember Virat bhaiya at the start of the season told me that ‘I can tell you the process (how to cope up with criticism) as I can correlate with you because these things have happened with me as well’ – it helped me a lot”.

Looking Ahead

RCB will now face either Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) or Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the eliminator of IPL 2024. With such high-stakes matches, the team will be relying on the same composure and strategic execution that Dayal displayed in the final over against CSK.
