WPL 2024 Purple Cap: Updated After Gujarat Giants vs Up Warriorz Match No. 18

Another day closer to the play-off stage and the competition to be the best becomes more tough. The race for the purple cap turned into more competitive. The 18th match of the tournament witnessed a thrilling fixture between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. After losing the match, the calculation to qualify for the play-off stage becomes more complicated. 

In the beginning, Gujarat Giants faced UP Warriorz at the Arun Jaitley stadium. Gujarat Giants batted first in the game. Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney gave an amazing start. But Sophie Ecclestone picked up Laura on a crucial point. After that, they dominated well but failed to dismiss the skipper. 

In that match, Sophie Ecclestone bowled exceptionally well. She took 3 wickets in 38 runs. Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets in 22 runs. Chamari Atapattu and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up 1 wicket each. They stopped the opponent on 152 runs.

 As the UP bowlers played well, the batters struggled in the second innings, apart from Deepti Sharma’s masterclass, the other batters were not impressive. Gujarat Bowlers dominated them. Shabnam took 3 wickets in 11 runs. Kathryn Emma Bryce and Ashleigh Gardner picked up 1 wicket each and defeated UP by 8 runs.
