Why #YuvrajSinghApologise Trending On Social Media?

Yuvraj Singh was seen to make casteist remark regarding leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in a conversation with Indian cricket team’s star opener Rohit Sharma. After the video went viral, Singh attracted criticism from fans and social media users.

What happened?

Yuvraj Singh had gone live on Instagram with Rohit Sharma in April and the duo just like others discussed Chahal’s TikTok videos. Chahal is very active on social media and especially his TikTok videos are quite a famous thing on the internet. While his followers love to get regular updates from him, his colleagues often pull his legs for his obsession with social media. In this video that recently went viral, while referring to the same, Singh made a casteist slur in a casual manner.

Yuvraj can be heard calling Chahal a ‘b***gi’ for making videos and Rohit Sharma laughed on the same. Rohit in fact made fun of Chahal for making his (Chahal’s) father dance. “Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu.” The duo then starts laughing and the entire thing has not gone well with them.

Yuvraj Singh in trouble

On Tuesday morning the video went viral with the hashtag, #YuvrajSinghMaafiMaango (#YuvrajSinghApologise). With more than almost 26,000 tweets with the hashtag, the video attracted criticism from all fans. This was not the first time when former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh had to face the wrath of social media.

Almost a month back Yuvraj Singh showed his support to the foundation of Shahid Afridi and was hugely criticised. Due to the political tension between the two countries, Singh’s action did not get validation from a large number of Indian fans. The issue escalated after the former Pakistan cricketer made an anti-India speech in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. After the incident, Yuvraj Singh said that he regretted his act of showing support to Afridi.
