“We like playing at home” says Pat Cummims after SRH lost IPL 2024 match with MI at Wankhede

IPL 2024 is approaching it’s conclusion as the 55th match of the tournament wrapped up. The match was held at Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad

The toss came out in favour of the host team, Mumbai Indians and their captain Hardik Pandya chose to bat first. This led to an eventful first innings as Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 173 runs, hence setting a target of 174 runs for MI to win. MI won the match by 7 wickets, which is a pretty huge margin.

With this, MI has been upgraded to the second last spot on the points table, while SRH still holds on to the 4th. Additionally, it must be made known that had MI lost today’s match, they would’ve been the first ones to be out of the tournament. Now GT holds the 10th spot.

Here’s What Cummins had to say

Addressing the audience in the post-match ceremony, losing captain and Australian cricketer Pat Cummims didn’t have a lot of words to say.

Cummins said “Probably a couple short, at the Wankhede you want as many as you can get. You always feel like you’re in, the wicket had a little bit in it so we were definitely in the game. I think Sanvir helped us get to that 170 instead of 150, ideally we’d have a bowler.”

The player also commended opposition team’s Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) for his performance in the game, all the while expecting to win the next few matches.

“SKY played really well. We like playing at home, we’ll wait and see what’s ahead of us. Hopefully a few more fireworks.” He added.

Was resting/dropping Markram a mistake?

It’s evident how the SunRisers have found it harder to score any daunting totals in their matches. The team has seemingly dropped Aiden Markram from their playing XI due to unspecified reasons.

Ever since Markram has been replaced by Marco Jansen, the gameplay for SRH hasn’t been quite the same.

“since the time SRH have rested/ dropped Markram, they haven’t been able to post such daunting totals. Not sure why they have tinkered with a match-winning combination when it wasn’t required. That has only given a chance to other teams in the tournament to climb up the ladder and make sure that the points table interesting.” Said the commentators.
