Watch: When MS Dhoni was denied a run-out as the bails didn’t come off

When it comes to wicketkeeping in the game of cricket, there isn’t anyone who even comes close to matching the skills of MS Dhoni. Even though age is catching up on the Indian legend, yet his keeping skills haven’t diminished one bit.

The batsmen, if leave the crease even marginally, Dhoni punishes them and removes the bails in a flash. Not just stumping, he has run various batsmen out due to his fast hands and presence of mind. On occasions, he has even broken the stumps without even looking at them.

One such incident occurred in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings were hosting Kings XI Punjab at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai in the 18th match of the season. CSK batted first and scored 160/3 from 20 overs. KXIP was going well in the chase at one stage.

Ravindra Jadeja was bowling the 13th over of the innings as KL Rahul lined up to face the 4th ball of the over. The batsman pushed the ball on the on-side and started running. The ball hadn’t gone too far. Dhoni went to the ball in a flash. He picked it up and flicked it back on the stumps without even looking at them.

Rahul was well short of the crease even with the desperate dive when the ball made contact with the stumps. Ambati Rayudu came jumping towards Dhoni as he felt it was certainly a run-out. But to the surprise of everyone, the bails didn’t come off. CSK players stood there in disbelief.

Dhoni’s brilliance went in vain as Rahul survived. He not only got a life but ended up getting a run off the delivery as the ball ricocheted for an overthrow. Rahul ended up scoring 55 from 47 balls. However, it didn’t hurt CSK in the end as the hosts won the match by 22 runs.
