Virender Sehwag slams Riyan Parag after a disappointing start to IPL 2023

Former India opening batter Virender Sehwag has recently criticized the performance of Rajasthan Royals‘ young batting all-rounder, Riyan Parag, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Sehwag expressed his disappointment and stated that Parag has not lived up to the trust placed on him by his team. So far, in the four matches played by Rajasthan Royals, Parag has only managed to score 39 runs, which is quite below average for a batsman of his caliber.

In addition to his criticism of Riyan Parag’s low run tally, Virender Sehwag also expressed disappointment with the mode of Parag’s dismissals in IPL 2023. According to Sehwag, Parag has been guilty of throwing his wicket away too often, which is a cause for concern for the Rajasthan Royals. Such dismissals not only hurt the team’s chances of winning but also affect the morale of the players.

“It is right for the players who are sitting outside to think ‘What wrong have we done to not get these many chances.’ Even Rajasthan management must be thinking about how long they should back Riyan Parag. If he wants to play for India then this is the platform where he has to deliver, or else he deserves to sit on the bench,” said Sehwag while speaking on Cricbuzz.

Rajasthan Royals could look for other options

Continuing his criticism of Riyan Parag’s performances in IPL 2023, Virender Sehwag suggested that the Rajasthan Royals management could consider other options to fill the role that Parag plays in the team. Sehwag opined that Parag has not lived up to the trust placed in him by the team and suggested that the management should look at other Indian all-rounders such as Abdul Basith and Akash Vasisht as potential replacements for the out-of-form Parag.

“They have invested that trust in Riyan Parag for a long time now, but he just hasn’t lived up to that trust. They are still in a good position and can afford to look at other players who are on the bench. The more you continue to back, the more injustice it will be on the players waiting in the wings. So this is their chance to check who else can fit in that role,” Sehwag added.
